Indian Seafarers Will Rise 20% In Next 10 Years

Vinay Singh, the Managing Director of Marine HR at the Anglo-Eastern Group, made an exciting announcement in February of this year. The company, which has a reputation for being one of the most trusted and respected names in the maritime industry, revealed their plans to bolster their existing pool of seafarers with an additional 1,000 Indian seafarers.

This announcement has been received with great enthusiasm by the Indian seafaring community, who see this as a welcome opportunity to work with one of the most reputable companies in the industry. The Anglo-Eastern Group has a long history of working with Indian seafarers, and their decision to expand their pool only goes to show their commitment to providing more employment opportunities for Indian seafarers.

The maritime industry is a crucial component of the global economy, with seafarers playing a vital role in ensuring the smooth functioning of global trade. The Anglo-Eastern Group's decision to add 1,000 more seafarers to their existing pool is a testament to their dedication to providing world-class services to their clients while also contributing to the growth of the Indian seafaring community.

The recruitment process for the 1,000 additional seafarers has already begun, with the company focusing on recruiting skilled and experienced professionals to join their team. With the addition of these seafarers, the Anglo-Eastern Group will be better equipped to serve their clients' needs and meet the increasing demand for maritime services.

Mr. Vinay Singh believes that in the next decade, India’s share of global seafarer demand will skyrocket from 8% to 20%, thanks to its strong education system, linguistic abilities, and young population.

This is largely due to India’s thriving coastal trade and cruise tourism industries, making them a major supplier of maritime labour at an international level. Singh believes that as Europe’s seafarer population ages, foreign shipowners will likely look towards India for recruitment.

On April 5th, India celebrates National Maritime Day in honour of the S.S Loyalty—the first Indian flag merchant vessel which sailed from Mumbai to London in 1919.

He declared that, amidst the current Ukraine-Russia conflict, foreign shipowners are in need of Indian seafarers due to their skill set. Despite 18% of the world’s population being Indian, they only provide 8% of the planet’s personnel in seafaring.

He also believes that with its education system, language capabilities, and youthful population, India can reach its full potential by increasing its global presence to 75%.

Book we are reading this week and you must as a Seafarer

Excellent communicating skills have always been crucial to success in leadership and management roles like sailors—and that’s one of the reasons the first edition of this book, Mastering Communication at Work, has been an international bestseller taught at universities and referred to by leading CEOs. In the years since it was first published, it’s been the go-to “communication playbook,” helping leaders develop strategic responses and communication tactics with clear, actionable advice.

What’s changed in the last ten years? Well, nothing—and everything.

The fundamentals of effective communication are the same, as are many of the challenges leaders face, generation after generation. You still need to “match your listener’s tendency” and “validate,” and you still need to guard against “defensiveness.” What has changed is how some of the fundamentals and challenges are applied and met in today’s world—both real and virtual, in remote and on-site working environments.

Mastering Communication at Work, 2nd Edition features an essential new chapter on remote team communication along with additional content on equitable leadership and updated case studies. Throughout, you’ll find practical, hands-on advice and strategies that can help you reach your potential when preparing for big conversations and important presentations, help you reduce everyday stress and improve your organization’s performance at every level.
